RFID Site Analysis

Intermec RFIDeploy Site Analysis confirms that the recommended specifications for RFID technology can be supported effectively in the actual workplace environment.

Service Profile

| RSS | Print |

Service Overview

  • Examine, characterize and document customer site as to RFID technology supportability
  • Determine the optimal mounting methods for identified hardware
  • Evaluate the ambient radio frequency environment, by performing a spectrum analysis to determine the effects of RF interference and whether a WLAN Site Survey is required
  • Detailed report

It's best to be sure, before you commit. Given all of the possible combinations of variables involved in effectively matching the components, materials and ambient environment of a targeted RFID touch zone or read zone, great care should be taken in piloting RFID systems components in the actual work environment. An Intermec RFIDeploySM Site Analysis consists of a detailed, onsite investigation into the possible – and often unintended – interactions of those variable combinations, in order to test out the recommendations of a Process Analysis or similar project specification. During the RFIDeploy Site Analysis, an Intermec consultant may determine that some of the recommendations for device configurations, tag attachments, or other designs presented in the process analysis cannot be effectively supported by RFID technology in the actual work environment. In such cases, the process analysis or even the customer's business plan may have to be altered, and new specifications applied to the project and tested onsite. The RFIDeploy Site Analysis serves a critical reality check to help ensure that a proposed design can be realized effectively, and that success criteria can be met or exceeded.

Until the Site Analysis is performed, it will be unknown, for example, to what extent if any, ambient radio frequency interference may affect the new RFID technology, or what effect that equipment may have on pre-installed wireless components in the same general location. To determine conclusively the RF characterization of the target environment, an RF (or WLAN) Site Survey may have to be conducted. Intermec offers WLAN Site Surveys as a separately chargeable service. The results of Intermec WLAN Site Surveys are guaranteed for 18 months.

Performance Guarantee

When it comes to RFID technology implementation, Intermec offers two important distinctions:
  • We not only design and manufacture RFID devices, we also provide the essential consulting, technical and selected software services to make it all work effectively.
  • We also offer a written, eighteen-month guarantee for systems performance.

That's right: When the three post-business-case RFIDeploy services (Process Analysis, Site Analysis and Site Installation) are performed or authorized by Intermec Global Services, the performance of the customer's RFID technology system is guaranteed to meet or exceed the criteria for success as established during the implementation process, for 18 months after system go-live.
