Delta Global Services Boosts Customer Service, Speeds Daily Operations with Intermec CS40

CS40's Scanning Capabilities Offer DGS Improved Efficiency and Reliability

EVERETT, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 21, 2012-- Intermec today announced that Delta Global Services (DGS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta Airlines and the industry leader in disability passenger handling and aviation services, has selected the Intermec CS40 handheld mobile computer for its daily operations at the Memphis International Airport (MEM). The Intermec CS40, with high performance 2D barcode scanning, offers DGS rugged mobile performance with the size and styling of a smart phone.

“In our business every second counts and the CS40 offers us the reliability and customer service we need for our fast-paced operations,” said Tom Farmakis, DGS Vice President of Marketing & Business Development. “The CS40's high performance scanning capabilities and overall reliability has already improved our efficiency 10 to 20 percent; because of this, we already have plans to deploy it at additional airports to support our growing operations.”

DGS agents, who are responsible for providing wheelchair assistance for all three terminals and 98 gates at MEM, use the CS40s to wirelessly receive passenger pick-up assignments and to scan passenger boarding pass information and gate location. Once boarding pass and location information is entered, the pickup transaction is time stamped and reported in real-time to the system over the AT&T network. Per U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, passengers must be picked up within minutes of requesting a wheelchair or a several thousand dollar fine may result. Industry-wide fines were estimated at more than $3 million in 2010, according to the U.S. DOT.
