Restriction of Hazardous Substances
The European Union directive on RoHS requires that producers of electrical and electronic equipment placed on the market after July 1, 2006 limit the use of certain restricted substances. Read the EU RoHS Directive (PDF) for more information.
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment
The European Union directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) requires that producers of electronic equipment who sell into EU countries: (1) label their equipment to notify customers that it needs to be recycled, (2) take back the equipment from customers at end of life, and (3) finance its recycling and reuse. The WEEE directive takes effect on August 13, 2005 and manufacturers must meet target objectives for recycling by December 2006. A number of EU countries have pushed back their implementation dates for the WEEE directive. Read the EU WEEE Directive (PDF) for further details.
